“Mini-Me”: BSRC “Alexander Fleming” at the Forefront of EU Biomedical Innovation

“Mini-Me”(Mini Proteins against Mega Diseases), is one of the only two Greek projects to have secured funding as coordinators from the highly competitive EIC Pathfinder Open program of the European Innovation Council.

The project coordinated by the Biomedical Sciences Research Center “Alexander Fleming” aims to break new ground in therapeutic research for diseases caused by misfolding proteins, by developing a radically new technology.

The selection of this project from among 2,103 proposals from 30 countries for the EIC Pathfinder Open program represents a significant achievement for Greek biomedical research, especially given the intense competition, which saw a success rate of approximately 2%.

“Mini-Me” is scientifically coordinated by Dr. George Skretas, Director of the Institute of Bioinnovation at the BSRC “Alexander Fleming” and the Boost4Bio ERA Chair holder. The consortium comprises 8 partners from 6 European countries, including the University of Cambridge and the Greek biotechnology company ResQ Biotech, which plays a pivotal role in the exploitation of the technology and the future development of therapeutic applications.

The European Innovation Council (EIC) has selected 43 groundbreaking projects from under the EIC Pathfinder Open 2026 call, each of them receiving up to €4 million in grant funding.

From pioneering cancer treatments and quantum computing to advanced manufacturing and climate-resilient technologies, these projects aim to push the boundaries of scientific discovery and lay the foundations for tomorrow’s breakthrough innovations.

“Mini-Me” was the third in the list of selected projects
